Frequently Asked Questions About Shaker Doors
_______
What is the most popular kitchen cabinet door style?
The shaker style continues to be the most popular kitchen cabinet door style in the UK. Its timeless design works equally well in period properties and modern homes, which is why so many people choose it for a long term investment. The simplicity of the shaker door means it can be styled up or down depending on your choice of colour, handles and surrounding features. With a bespoke kitchen, you are not restricted to a standard version of this style. You can refine proportions, edge details and finishes so the final result feels unique to your home.
Why are Shaker style kitchen doors so popular?
Shaker style kitchen doors remain one of the most popular choices because they strike a perfect balance between classic design and modern simplicity. Their clean lines and framed construction suit both traditional and contemporary kitchens, making them incredibly versatile. They do not date quickly, which is important if you are investing in a bespoke kitchen built to last. Shaker doors also work well with a wide range of finishes, colours and handles, allowing you to tailor the look to your exact preference. When combined with our mix and match approach, they can be adapted to feel traditional, classic or contemporary depending on the details you choose.
Are there different styles of Shaker door?
There are 4 types of shaker door. Firstly, there is the traditional shaker which has a flat door panel and no decoration. Then we have 3 other shaker door styles with a variety of decorative beading. It is the option of 4 shaker styles with a choice of 4 drawer styles, 4 plinth styles and 4 cornice styles that makes the Shaker style so versatile. On top of that the cabinets can be finished with any colour and handle choice meaning everyone can get the look they want.
How is a Shaker door made?
A shaker door is usually made using a five-piece construction: two vertical stiles, two horizontal rails, and a flat centre panel. The frame pieces are joined using traditional mortise and tenon joints, while bespoke kitchens makers often use moisture resistant MDF for the centre panel as this gives much more stability to the door.
